A Valencia court investigates public contracts awarded to the former director of the Women’s Institute

The Court of Instruction number 7 of Valencia has opened an investigation following the complaint filed by the “Manos Cleans” union against the former director of the Women’s Institute Isabel García for the various public awards that their companies received for manage purple dots and other activities related to equality and diversity.

García was fired in July after learning of her dual roles as a politician and businesswoman, roles she combined during the first months of her mandate.

The complaint, based on journalistic information, concerns a battery of 64 minor contracts -without competition- that García and his partner have obtained in recent years through two companies. The majority came from Valencian municipalities governed by the PSOE. For them, they would have charged around 250,000 euros.

Manos Cleans considers that the facts could constitute crimes of falsification of public documents, prevarication and influence peddlingbut gives no indication of the alleged irregularities, beyond listing the awards and asserting that the socialist’s popularity as an expert on the subject meant that her “private business” was “assured “.

Elig Equality and Diversity Political Consulting, created by García in 2022, is headquartered in Xirivella, a municipality in which she served as equality advisor – a position she combined with that of principal deputy in the Foral Deputation from Valencia – until she joined in 2019 as advisor to former minister José Luis Ábalos. It is for this reason that the Valencia court transferred the case to another court in Mislata, of which the judicial district of Xirivella is part, according to Las Provincias.

During her time at the Women’s Institute, García retained 8% of the company -to avoid a conflict of interest- and appointed his partner, Elisabeth García, sole administrator, who is also the owner of Imber Consultoría de Igualdad and was also an advisor to the Socialists in the Senate.
