A Vologda resident who shot at passers-by was sentenced to 12 years

The court sentenced a Vologda resident, who started shooting at passers-by, resulting in one person being killed and another being injured, to 12 years in a maximum security colony, the joint press service of the Vologda region courts reported.

“Resident of Vologda convicted of fatal shooting on street. Herzen. On the night of September 5-6, 2023, a 34-year-old resident of Vologda was drunk near the entrance to his house on the street. Herzen had an argument with two men he did not know, after which he took a pistol and shot both strangers. The 47-year-old victim died on the spot. His 24-year-old friend was able to run home and call an ambulance, thanks to which he survived.” – says the message.

The shooter was detained the same morning. The gun he used was found in the trunk of his car. It turned out to be a homemade signal pistol converted into a firearm. He was found guilty of illegal acquisition and storage of firearms and ammunition (Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), attempted murder of two people and murder (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

“For all the crimes, the author was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security correctional colony, with a restriction of liberty for one year.” – the press service reported.

The court also awarded him 1.6 million rubles in compensation for the deceased’s wife and daughter.
