Abascal threatens Venezuelan authorities with confiscation of assets in Spain if relations break off

Vox leader, Santiago Abascalthreatened the Venezuelan authorities this Thursday with confiscation of assets that they or their families could have in Spain if they break off relations, after receiving opposition leader Edmundo González.

Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez on Wednesday asked lawmakers to approve a resolution to sever diplomatic and trade relations with Spain, after Congress approved an initiative to urge Pedro Sánchez’s government to recognize González as elected president of Venezuelaafter the elections at the end of July.

Abascal called a “tyrant” Nicolas Maduro and the rest of the Venezuelan authorities, whom he called a “gang of criminals” and told to “prepare” in case of a breakdown in relations with Spain. The Vox leader guaranteed that his party “would do everything necessary” to have his assets, accounts and cards and those of his relatives in Spain confiscated and blocked.

“We will not stop until we achieve this, despite the complicity of the Spanish government, to bring down this dictatorship criminal and the Venezuelan people are free,” he added in a message posted on his social media account X.
