Swedish music group ABBA and Universal Music have spoken out against the use of their music in the election campaign of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper on Thursday, August 29.
Around 8,000 of his supporters gathered at Trump’s rally at the hockey arena in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The song “The Winner Takes It All” was played during the event and a ten-minute slideshow was shown with images of the band’s musicians playing their popular songs.
Musicians ABBA and Universal Music Group, upon learning of the situation, demanded that their music be stopped from being used in Trump’s election campaign.
“Together with the members of ABBA, we became aware of the publication of ABBA music videos being played at Trump events and demanded that this be stopped and removed immediately.” – said Universal Music.
The company said it had not received any requests for music and had not granted the presidential candidate permission to use popular songs at his events.
Previously, on August 11, the management team Celine Dion and record label Sony Music Canada said the use of the global hit “My Heart Will Go On” from the film “Titanic” at Trump’s campaign rally in Montana on Aug. 9 was “unauthorized.”
