An expanded meeting of the Defense and National Security Committee of the Abkhazian Parliament took place on November 12 with the participation of Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic Damir Kvitsinia and Deputy Minister of the Interior Beslan Chkadua, the press service of the parliament reports.

At the meeting, the situation of the detention of opponents Garry Kokai, Almaskhan Ardzinba, Omar Smyr, Ramaz Dzhopua and the detention of former deputy Tengiz Agrba on November 11 was discussed.

The deputies addressed the representatives of the security forces to ask them about the circumstances that led to the arrest of these citizens and the situation at that time.

The Deputy Minister of the Interior explained that on November 11, in front of the Parliament building in Sukhum, “a group of people committed illegal actions against MP Almas Akab, accompanied by obscene language.” Later that day, these citizens were detained. The materials on this fact were transferred to the court to make the appropriate decision.

Regarding the video images of the attack on the Aqaba deputy, the Deputy Minister of the Interior indicated that they will be delivered to the court if the judge requests them. The detainees are accused of committing an administrative offense under Article 166 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Armenia “Petty hooliganism”, which provides for the imposition of a fine of two to five minimum wages or correctional labor from one to two months with retention of 20 percent of the profits, and if due to the circumstances of the case, taking into account the identity of the offender, the use of these measures will be considered insufficient – administrative arrest for up to 30 days.

When asked about the fact of detention of Tengiz Agrba, who was detained on November 9, the Deputy Prosecutor General explained that on November 11 the court decided to release him, but it turned out that the certificate of his status turned out to be fictitious . .

The deputies noted that from the point of view of law, the court decision must be executed regardless of whether the certificate is fictitious or not.

As Abkhazian opposition telegram channels report, all oppositionists, whose arrest led to the blocking of traffic on three bridges, have already been released.
