289 dead seals were found on the shores of the Caspian Sea in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the Kazinform news agency.
According to the acting head of the regional fisheries inspection, Andrei Rutskoi, surveillance of the coastal zone continues. It is attended by representatives of local executive bodies and the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, a branch of the Republican Fisheries and Aquaculture Association “Kazak Balyk” (“Kazakh Fish”).
According to Rutsky, the causes of the seals’ death will be known after carrying out the corresponding laboratory tests.
Previously it was reported that more than 150 dead seals were found on the shores of the Caspian Sea. In March of this year, 40 seal carcasses were also found and in April, almost 80 carcasses.
In 2020, the Caspian seal was included in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.
