The Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Hairannounced the arrest of more than a dozen suspected people “mercenaries” involved in an alleged plot to to spill to the government of Nicolas Maduro and accused the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Intelligence Center (CNI) Spanish.
He expressed this in statements on Venezuelan public television, where he took the opportunity to also highlight the participation of the United States Drug Administration (DEA) in the alleged context.
In this sense, he stressed that the plot is part of a “policy of imperialism which, with its elements of action, was directed by the CIA and the CNI”. “It is the Spanish National Intelligence Center which is in charge of the operation; in terms of recruitment, in research and supply of weapons“, he said.
“We announced it and they immediately came … and said they had nothing to do with it. It makes sense that they would say they had nothing to do with it, but we are obliged to inform, to tell the truth,” he said.
Cabello indicated that opposition leader María Corina Machado was already aware of this attempt to “destabilize” the Caribbean country and also accused former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe and the former president of the Venezuelan National Assembly Julio Borges for being involved.
As explained, all detained foreigners speak Spanish and some had photographs of “strategic areas”“, like refineries, on their cell phones. In addition, Venezuelan security forces seized parts believed to correspond to some 24 assault rifles.
