The actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón will receive the 2025 Honorary Goya as announced by the Cinema Academy during an event at the institution’s headquarters. He will be the youngest to receive it at 55, but he has been in his career for 40 years. The prize will be presented to him during the 39th edition of the awards which will take place on February 8, 2025 at the Granada Exhibition and Congress Palace. Last year, this recognition was awarded to the historic Catalan cinematographer, film restorer and researcher Juan Mariné.
The president of the Academy highlighted an actress who is “complete, serious, responsible, dedicated, close and who gives real sincerity and depth to all her works”. He also pointed out that the actress does not yet have a Goya to play, and it was agreed that Antonio Banderas did not have one either when he received the same recognition, and that years later, he would finally get it for Dolor y Gloria.
Aitana Sánchez-Gijón’s career is one of the most complete in Spanish cinema. He has worked with the best national directors, such as Fernando Fernán-Gómez, Pilar Miró, Bigas Luna, Vicente Aranda, Jaime Chávarri, Imanol Uribe, Fernando Colomo and Pedro Almodócar. Also in international films like A Walk in the Clouds or The Machinist.
