Alonso and Newey have always had a deep admiration for each other, perhaps dating back to the rivalry they had when the Spaniard was at Ferrari and nearly ‘stole’ a crown from Newey.
“With Fernando, of course, we have been fighting among ourselves for many years. At times he has been a kind of sworn enemy“, recalled the Briton.
“We were very close to his arrival at Red Bull in 2008 for the 2009 season, but unfortunately it didn’t happen, which is a real shame. So we continue to fight among ourselves. “He’s a legend of the sport and I really want to work with him,” he added.
