AECC and CCUN, together to humanize care for cancer patients and their families

THE Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and Clínica Universidad de Navarra Cancer Center (CCUN) They strengthened their collaboration with the signing of an agreement that will promote humanization in the treatment of people with cancer and their families.

The agreement –signed by Ramon Reyespresident of the AECC, and Maria Irabururector of the University of Navarra – commits both institutions to develop initiatives to improve the patient experience and dignity and the people around you throughout the process of diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

When presenting the agreement, Jose Maria CampoDirector of Mission and Operations of the AECC, explained that “the humanization effort in health establishments can be achieved through improvement of the environment, emotional, social and economic support, progress in communication and respect for the autonomy of each patient.

Alongside this objective of advancement in all areas of the life of the oncology patientThe agreement between the AECC and the CCUN aims to promote the active, effective and professional participation of people with cancer and their family environment in public institutions, hospitals and civil associations.

“It is obvious that specialists dedicated to fight against cancer “We treat people, and people are always at the center of our work, but to take better care of them, we must be more attentive to their needs and thus fulfill our mission adequately and with excellence” , detailed the Dr Antonio Gonzalezdirector of CCUN.

Among other measures, the agreement will make it easier for all cancer patients treated at the Clinic of the University of Navarra and their families can access the information materials and various training activities of the AECC to contribute to maximum knowledge of the disease itself, its prevention, its treatments and the necessary care.

The agreement includes the promotion of actions promoting research against cancer, the other major common objective of the usual activity of the AECC and one of the characteristics of a comprehensive cancer center like CCUN.

Meeting with students from the health branches of the University of Navarra

The rectorate of the University of Navarra welcomed the alliance between the AECC and the CCUN, which for the president of the Association means “to undertake together a path to improve the quality of life of cancer patients from a humanized, person-centered perspective, by offering empathetic, comprehensive and personalized care”.

For her part, the rector of the University, Maria Iraburuemphasized that “advancing the humanization of care for these patients naturally responds to the mission of the Clinic and the model of care that it has practiced since its creation. For this reason, go hand in hand with Spanish Cancer Association“In addition to being a source of pride, it reaffirms our model.”

The visit of the president of AECC at the University of Navarra concluded with a session open to all students from the faculties of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, science and psychology and education.

During the discussion with the students, Ramón Reyes and Dr. Javier Serrano, Director of Health Care of the AECC, addressed the major current issues surrounding oncology care and research. Accompanied by a multiple myeloma patient, who shared his personal experience with the disease among the students, Reyes asked for the students’ help so that AECC can reach everyone who needs it.
