AEMET activates orange alert in six communities due to storms and rain

Aragon, Cantabria, Castile and León, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja are under an orange warning for storms and rain that could cause accumulations of up to 30 litres per square metre in one hour due to the isolated high-level depression (DANA) affecting the peninsula.

According to the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), significant rains are expected today in Burgos, Soria, Cantabria, Alava, Gipuzkoa, Vizcaya, La Rioja, Zaragoza and Navarre.

In Cantabria, Álava, Gipuzkoa, Vizcaya, La Rioja, Navarra, Huesca, Burgos, Zaragoza, Teruel, Madrid, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Cantabria, Valladolid, Soria, Segovia, Palencia, León, Asturias there will also be storms with strong gusts of wind and possibility of being accompanied by hail.

AEMET predicts that medium and high cloud cover will increase this Saturday afternoon in the southern half of the peninsula, with possible showers or storms in the southeast mountains and around the Gulf of Cadiz.

Maximum temperatures will increase in the east, center and east of the Cantabrian Peninsula, decrease in the far west and with little change in the rest, as will minimum temperatures.

Temperatures of 35 degrees will only be exceeded this Saturday in the valleys of the southern half of the peninsula.
