AEMET puts 14 communities on alert due to rains, particularly heavy in Catalonia and the Valencian Community

Fourteen communities in the northern half of the peninsula are on alert for heavy storms and rain, which in the case of Catalonia and the Valencian Community are at the orange level (high risk), given the forecast of accumulations of up to 40 liters per square meter in an hour.

Likewise, twelve other communities will remain on weather alert this Friday, although at the yellow level (risk for certain activities), due to these bad weather conditions: Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, both Castiles, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, Euskadi. and Rioja.

The Valencian Community and Catalonia are on orange alert due to forecasts of rain on the coast of Castellón and Tarragona, with accumulations of up to 40 litres per square metre in one hour; in the latter case, the alert will remain in place throughout the day.

Likewise, it will rain heavily on the coast of Barcelona and in Catalonia, where accumulations will reach up to 20 liters per square meter, according to forecasts from the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), on its website.

In general, precipitation accumulations will be 15 liters per square meter in a large part of the interior of the northern half of the peninsula; these amounts will be collected in Extremadura, Siberia of Extremadura (Badajoz) and in a good part of the province of Cáceres.

Also in Ciudad Real, Guadalajara and Toledo (Castile-La Mancha) as well as in Aragon, central Huesca and the province of Zaragoza, according to AEMET.

It will also rain heavily in the Aragonese province of Teruel, where accumulations will reach up to 20 litres per square metre in areas such as Albarracín and Jiloca and in Gúdar and Maestrazgo.

In the central area, the entire community of Madrid is on yellow alert until early afternoon due to rains that could reach 15 liters per square meter.

These quantities will also be widely collected in Castile and Leon, Asturias, Cantabria, Euskadi, Navarre, La Rioja, inland Galicia and northwest Murcia.
