AEMET puts four communities on orange alert for rain and storms ahead of Atlantic front

Aragon, Castilla y León, Navarra and La Rioja are on orange alert (high risk) for rain and storms with hail and wind, due to accumulations of up to 30 liters per square meter, while in eight other communities the warnings are yellow (risk for certain activities).

A good part of the eastern half of the country will activate warnings for bad weather this Monday from 12:00, according to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The yellow warnings for rain and storms will affect Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia, Euskadi and the Valencian Community. The Balearic Islands will also do so, just because of the rain.

AEMET announces for this Monday, September 2, the arrival of an Atlantic front that will sweep the northern third of the peninsula, from west to east, giving way to cloudy or overcast skies and precipitation. The day will be characterized by instability, with daytime clouds that will extend to the eastern half in the form of occasional showers and thunderstorms, more likely in the mountains and reaching the Balearic Islands.

Rainfall can be locally heavy in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, the Iberian Peninsula, the Central Eastern System and the interior of the Levant, as well as abundant in the surrounding areas. In the rest of the country, the weather will be stable with slightly cloudy skies or high clouds.

Maximum temperatures decrease in the northwest third and the eastern Mediterranean of the peninsula, and increase in the center and interior of the northeast and in the Canary Islands. It is likely that 36 degrees will be reached again in the Guadalquivir.

Here is the prediction of the autonomous communities:

– GALICIA: Cloudy periods, decreasing to slightly cloudy with high clouds in the western half and in the south in the afternoon. Scattered mists and fogs likely at altitude in the early and late afternoon. Light precipitation in the morning, more likely and frequent on the Cantabrian coast, which will ease in the afternoon.
