Aemet warns of a strong blast of cold, rain and snow in these areas

The storm Berenice will continue to affect Spain this Sunday, but it will be a calmer day and less rain according to the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Still early in the morning, the rains could be intense in western Andalusia, but temperatures will rise across most of the country particularly due to the arrival of southerly winds.

HE will exceed 25ºC in large areas of the territory, including the Cantabrian coast, and even 30ºC will be reached in cities like Granada, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca. On Monday, however, the unstable environment will return with the likelihood of showers in large areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, especially in the southern half of the peninsula.

It is not excluded that some of these showers will be intense, although “there is a lot of uncertainty” about the areas they will affect, admits Aemet. Temperatures will continue to rise and On Monday, temperatures could even exceed 30ºC in the interior of the southeast of the peninsulaa day warmer than normal for this time of year.

“On Monday we will still be affected by the weekend storm. It will be located to the southwest of the peninsula and while it continues to fill, another new storm will arrive. This new storm will be Ex-Lesliewhich would arrive in the form of an extratropical storm”, explains Marta Almarcha, meteorologist at ElTiempo.es. Isolated showers are therefore expected in Andalusia, Extremadura, on the southern plateau and in parts of the northeast. “Ultimately, they could extend to the southeast of the peninsula.”

By Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Spain will again be under the full influence of Atlantic storms and their associated fronts. Almost widespread rains are expected, more abundant in Galicia and the area around the central system and lighter in the Mediterranean without probably reaching the Balearic Islands.

“The rains would be brought forward from southwest to north“, explains Almarcha. “On Tuesday they could be intense in parts of the center and in Andalusia in the afternoon. On Wednesday the rains would arrive from the west and could be heavy in some areas of Galicia, the central system and again in Andalusia and Extremadura.

In addition, temperatures will drop. It is possible that on Wednesday and Thursday, the last days of this central part of the week, there will be some snowfall in the high mountains. Looking ahead to next weekend, it is likely that the rains will ease and temperatures will rise again.

In the Canaries, cloud cover will increase this weekend and rain is expected, particularly on the northern slopes of the more mountainous islands. In these areas, precipitation will be a little more abundant but it could rain over a large part of the archipelago.

Temperatures will drop sharply on Sunday and this probability of rain, particularly on the most mountainous islands, will continue during the first days of next week with temperatures picking up from Tuesday.
