The decision of the German intelligence services to designate the ultra -alternative side of Germany (AFD) as an “extremist organization” is the biggest step taken by the authorities to try to stop the progress of this populist force.
This classification of the Constitution Protection Office (BFV, for its abbreviation in German) opens the door for security services to control the largest opposition party in Germany, even gaining people to report against it and allowing them to intercept their messages.

Party of Mercke, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), is divided into its idea of how to relate to AFD.
