Building and rebuilding mosques is the work of all Afghans, not just mullahs and imams. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of the Interior of the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” (AIE, the proper name of the country among the Taliban).*) Sirajuddin Haqqani during the laying of the foundation of a mosque in Khost, TOLOnews reports.
According to Haqqani, mosques and madrassas should no longer be the work of Muslim clerics alone. Collective efforts are needed to solve both religious and worldly problems and tasks.
“We will not leave religion exclusively in the hands of the clergy. Everyone will have their own role in religion, but to meet worldly needs and solve problems, we will work together by adhering to proper rules and principles and making efforts to solve these problems sincerely,” Haqqani said.
He highlighted that the IEA government does not have enough money to finance projects.
“Our income is very limited and the state budget has not yet reached the level that allows us to implement large projects. However, some long-term projects are being developed using mining revenues. For projects within our capabilities, we will not wait for others; “We will make our own efforts.” – he added.
Meanwhile, Khost residents called for more “earthly projects.”
“In many areas people need dams, but their construction has not yet begun,” — said Mohammad Ilyas, a resident of Khost.
His compatriot Sahi Mohammad declared:
“In Khost we need projects that people urgently need, such as roads, bridges and dams.”
“In the previous government they made promises to us about reconstruction projects, but they were not fulfilled. “We now ask the Islamic Emirate to take measures in this direction.” Saidullah Jan, another local resident, said.
The mosque in the capital Khost will cost 30 million Afghanis, the money was allocated by one of the local businessmen. It will be able to accommodate 2,500 believers.
