The Kurakhovskoye reservoir dam on the Volchaya River was damaged and the water level within the Velikonovoselkovskaya community rose by 1.2 meters. This is reported by the Donetsk OVA.
“At 4:00 p.m. it was found that the water level of the river in the Velikonovoselkovskaya community had risen by 1.2 meters. But so far no residential flooding has been reported.” – the administration said in a statement.
The advance threatens to flood settlements located along the Volchya River not only in Donetsk, but also in the Dnepropetrovsk region, the OVA noted.
Local authorities claim that the dam was blown up by the Russian Armed Forces.
The servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also write about this. According to them, the dam was destroyed by the Russians to flood the roads supplying the Kurakhovo garrison and the Ukrainian units located north of the Volchya River and the Kurakhovo reservoir. The explosion complicated the logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and several villages in the direction of Bogatyr were flooded, writes in particular a soldier from Aidar.* Stanislav Bunyatov.
“The roads are still usable, but with certain nuances, the movement of armored vehicles on dirt roads around these towns. etc., of course, is limited.” – notes Bunyatov, quoted by the Strana publication.
According to Russian public information, the dam was blown up by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to stop the advance of the Russian Armed Forces.
