Political reactions in France to ICC arrest warrants
On the left of the French political spectrum, the arrest warrants issued against Israeli leaders were applauded. “The ICC decision against Netanyahu and Gallant is the indisputable consequence of its strategy of annihilation, still underway”estimated the head of the ecologists, Marine Tondelier, at X. For Olivier Faure, the head of the PS, “This decision should lead Western countries to immediately halt all shipments of weapons used in Gaza.”.
“Netanyahu is a war criminal who is now actively wanted”greeted the leader of the “rebel” deputies, Mathilde Panot, on the same social network, while the coordinator of La Francia insumisa, Manuel Bompard, considered that France should “Come out of your denial and finally act to end the genocide in Gaza”.
On the right, Philippe Juvin questioned the legitimacy of the ICC. “Who does not see the worrying drift of international institutions that make the fight against Israel a common point for all these people who, deep down, do not exercise democracy in their own country? »asked the deputy on Sud Radio. “Anything that hinders a political solution is not necessarily welcome at this time”reacted the (renaissance) deputy Sylvain Maillard.
“There is clearly a desire to humiliate Israel with this decision”lamented for his part the vice president of the National Rally, Sébastien Chenu, on Franceinfo, asking France to “show this friendly country your support with a little more energy”.
