President of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) Sahib Mammadov met with General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ICC) Luc Triangle, who came to Baku to participate in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The activities of Azerbaijani trade unions, including their international relations, the progress of COP29 and future tasks, were discussed at the meeting.
The president of the confederation, Sahib Mammadov, said that COP29, prepared by Azerbaijan with great professionalism, is held in a transparent, impartial and inclusive manner, and stability and solidarity are glorified in all aspects of the event. He drew the attention of the guests that the results to be achieved will lead to the reduction of environmental impacts and broad public participation.
According to him, under the leadership of the head of the country in our country all manifestations of democracy have been fully established and human rights and freedoms, including labor rights, are guaranteed at the highest level. It was noted that as a direct result of the complex measures implemented, the well-being of citizens of Azerbaijan is constantly increasing and the amounts of salaries, benefits and other social payments are regularly increasing. Of course, this leads to the strengthening of Azerbaijani trade unions, their free and independent activity and more effective protection of labor rights.
The president of the confederation spoke about the measures taken to create safe and decent working conditions in Azerbaijan, highlighted the attention that unions pay to the health of workers and the conditions created for their normal rest.
It was also highlighted that the institution considers international cooperation as a priority in its activities and works in the direction of studying and applying the world’s progressive practices in the field of labor rights. Referring to the benefits of cooperation with BHK in this regard, Sahib Mammadov informed the Secretary General that they intend to take appropriate measures to further expand relations and establish closer contacts.
