Bavaria, like other federal states, massively subsidized the purchase of air filters in schools. The federal government also provided 200 million euros to buy mobile devices. Prime Minister Bavaria Marcus Seder, at that time in the Corona team, caused the target in the summer of 2021 to equip all classrooms in a free state of air filters. Anyone who fell upon, received 50 percent of the expenses for the acquisition from the state. Nevertheless, the country no longer participated in the current maintenance costs – now it can take revenge, as the example of Erlangen shows.
The city moved, all her schools equipped their schools in 2021 with the help of high-quality models of 107 TOX TAP-SPC/L and 644 Trotec M II, which then cost several thousand euros each. The city invested a total of more than three million euros with the help of the country, but only four years later it was possible to dispose of expensive air filters. In any case, this involves the report of the city administration, which studied several options for further use of air filters.
Result: since neither the distribution (does not prohibit the municipal code for the free state of Bavaria), nor the sale (in accordance with the low interest rate at test auctions), is not realistic, in fact, only the “professional disposal of all devices” remains, provided that the budget provides costs of about 115,000 euros. The city, apparently, excludes devices that are easily retained due to annual maintenance costs in the “6-digit Euro range”. Well, at the end of the three -year period, the binding period for devices, the city can maintain this position. Maintenance contracts have already stopped them.
Other viruses are also filtered
The nationwide initiative #Protectthekids, which has been working for clean air in kindergartens and schools since 2021, hopes for rethinking. He calls on the mayor of Florian Yanika (SPD) to save the air filter in all schools in Erlangen, which are not equipped with a suitable air system of the room. Not only from possible future pandemics: “Air filters in classes also effectively filter out influenza, RSV or cold viruses,” says Stefan Hemler from #Protecthekids of Taz. This is under scientists: undoubtedly inside.
Hemler currently hears that air filters are becoming a trap for sticky municipalities. He sees failures in politics that from the very beginning did not take into account the subsequent costs of maintaining devices. “Now it shows how short, the state promotes here.”
The Bavarian Ministry of Culture does not see itself on request. Whether the air purifiers will be used after the financing period is the responsibility of municipalities, cities and districts. School expenses are responsible for the cost of maintenance.
From the very beginning, the head of the Teacher Association Stefan Dull, from the very beginning, has critically saw the purchase of air filters. “From my point of view, efforts and use in any case are not a ratio,” says Dull Taz. Since the end of the pandemic, devices exist only around, including in his school. The fact that the state buried millions here could be seen.
