This Thursday the 2024 Spanish Masters Cycling Championship was presented, which will be held this weekend in Albacete with almost 900 participants. It is the first time that the city has hosted an event of this type and the mayor, Manuel Serrano, highlighted the joint effort made by the different institutions and groups involved, recognizing in particular the work of the Peña Ciclista Albacete, the Local Police and the Civil Guard, “which played a fundamental role in the coordination”.
“It is an opportunity to project the city at a national level, both from a sporting and tourist point of view”, since “this type of event contributes to the promotion of the city and is a great success that we owe to the intense work of the technical team of the Municipal Sports Institute and the Sports Department”, added Serrano.
The championship will take place over two intense days of competition. On Saturday 21st, the online tests will take place, with four races. In the morning, the cyclists in the Master 30 category will cover a 114-kilometer circuit, while those in the Master 40 category will face a distance of 106 kilometers. And in the afternoon, the Master 50 will cover 78 kilometers and the Master 60 and the Women will compete together in a 68-kilometer event.
The races will pass through various municipalities in the province, such as El Salobral, Peñas de San Pedro, Pozuelo and Pozohondo, as well as the capital Albacete. The exits will be neutralized from España Avenue, passing through the Murcia motorway and crossing the air base and the Maestranza, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Wing 14. The finish line will also be located on España Avenue.
On Sunday, September 22, it will be the turn of the individual time trial. The exit will be located on Avenida de la Estación and the route will lead to the Campollano business park, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. The cyclists will go around this industrial emblem of the city before crossing the finish line in Plaza del Altozano.
This 2024 Spanish Master Cycling Championship will be broadcast on Teledeporte, “which will allow the event to reach millions of homes throughout the country”, believes the mayor, highlighting the economic impact it will have for the city in terms of hotel occupancy and the revitalization of local commerce and hospitality.
