Alcorcón residents will pay €300 more per year for Sánchez’s ‘waste’, plus the IBI increase

Bad news for the pockets of residents of Alcorcón, the large dormitory town near Madrid governed by the PSOE where tens of thousands of middle-class families live. A couple with two children will have to pay from 2025 almost 600 euros for him waste of Pedro Sanchezthe new rate that the government is forcing municipalities throughout Spain to charge within the so-called law on waste and contaminated soil for a circular economy.

Concretely, a family of 4 people living in a chalet or detached house worth between 507,000 and 592,000 euros in Alcorcón will pay 570 euros trash tax per year. If this family lives in an apartment of the same cadastral value, they will have to pay approximately 234 euros per year.

The amount to be paid for the garbage rate will decrease the lower the cadastral value of the house and will also depend on the number of people living in the house. Another example: a family of four who owns an apartment with a cadastral value of between 169,000 and 254,000 euros must pay 187 euros for costs of waste per year, but if they live in a chalet, they will pay 439 euros per year.

If only two people live together in a house, in this case, if the cadastral value of the property is between 254,000 and 338,000, they will pay 175 euros in garbage tax per year. But if this same couple lives in a chalet with the same amount, they will pay 448 euros per year in tax. In other words, even if they have the same cadastral valuefamilies who live in chalets will be more penalized than those who live in apartments.

THE new waste rate established by Law 7/2022 on Waste and Contaminated Soils for a Circular Economy, implies that municipalities must pass on the entire cost of the garbage collection service to taxpayers. Until now, there was no garbage tax in Alcorcón.

This will result in a increase in bills that families must pay every year. Not only because Pedro Sanchez decided to replace the current waste law of 2011 and impose that waste which did not previously exist in municipalities but also, in the case of Alcorcón, its socialist mayor, Candelaria Testa, also decided increase IBI by 5%.

Increase in IBI

The board of directors of The town hall approved this month the draft update of the tax ordinances for next year, which also includes the incorporation of a new surcharge in this property tax up to 150% For large holders of empty homes.

The Socialist City Council of Alcorcón is one of those that will reap the most thanks to this imposition of Sánchez with the waste and the rise of the IBI. With the garbage tax alone, Alcorcón will collect 14 million euros that will come out of the pockets of all the corconeros.

With the increase in the IBI, they will collect 3 million euros and thus, the Candelaria Testa Town Hall will enter the municipal coffers 17 million euros more than he had collected in previous years. Testa thus follows in the footsteps of Sánchez, who is already preparing a new tax increase with which he plans to raise up to 60 billion additional.

Federation of Municipalities of Madrid

In the rest of the Community of Madrid, tensions are already being felt. The socialist mayors of the Madrid municipalities of Alcorcón, Ciempozuelos, Fuentidueña de Tajo and Parla, among others, appeared on May 21 before the Board of Directors of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid (FMM) a common proposal aimed at “homogenizing”, they say, this rate.

The people do not consider that something similar could be done for all the municipalities since there are “179 municipalities with different characteristics”, declared Judith Piquet, president of the FMM and mayor of Alcalá de Henares. This municipality has decided reduce other taxes such as IBI to compensate for this assessment of the Sánchez government and most likely other municipalities governed by the Popular Party of the Madrid region will join this measure.

Alcalá de Henares

This Madrid municipality announced in September a “historic” tax reduction to compensate for the waste of the government of Pedro Sánchez.

“This decision is an imposition by the central government on all municipalities, so the only thing we can do from the Alcalá City Council is to reduce municipal taxes to relieve our citizens of the assessment of Sánchez”, explained the Finance Advisor, Gustavo Severian.

In this way, the Complutense City Council will reduce municipal taxes by five million over the next three years to alleviate the imposition by the Spanish government of the garbage tariff which obliges all municipalities in Spain to pass on the cost of collection and waste treatment for the citizens of each municipality. In the case of Alcalá, this will average around 134 euros per year.

So, as the PP announced, from next year practically all the most common taxes will decrease. Sévérien highlighted the reduction of the Tax on the increase of urban land (municipal capital gains), as well as the Real Estate Tax, known as IBI, among others.

“In addition, we will reduce the tax on economic activities and the tax on mechanical traction vehicles,” he said. In addition, 160 sports city rates have been updated and a 70% bonus has been included for sports clubs that operate in the sports city.
