The Márquez brothers’ adventure together in MotoGP is over. This year they were colleagues at Gresini, but now Marc is starting to work with Ducatithe official team. And for Alex, it’s been a year of a lot of learning but also of suffering because of so much spotlight on him.
This is what he said in words collected by ‘Motosan’ after the last race of the Barcelona Solidarity Grand Prix: “The problem is that everyone looks at you with more eyes clinic being in the same box, with the same motorcycle.
“Whether you like it or not, it hasn’t been an easy year for meespecially at the beginning and a little at the end. When there were five or six races left, I was having a hard time understanding the bike and knowing what it was doing. But I was able to learn a lot from him,” says Alex, who will continue at Gresini next year with a new partner, Fermín Aldeguer.
He emphasizes how much he learned: “Having him in the box with the same bike was a big help. So I learned a lot. I learned what I couldn’t learn in 2020 because I was away and it was less heavier than that year, because I was at home and had a lot of free time.
Gresini has been at the center of MotoGP. The arrival of an eight-time world champion changes everything: “This year has been busier and the truth is that we both managed it very well, knowing at all times what everyone’s place was and being very professionals.”
Your adventure is over. This Monday, the elder Márquez began actively working with his new team, Ducati. Next to Davide Tardozzi and Gigi Dall’Igna learned the secrets of the GP25, the bike he will test this week in Barcelona and with which he will ride next season Pecco Bagnaia.
