The trial of Ali Insanov, former Minister of Health and chairman of the Haqq Adalat Party (HAP), took place following his appeal to overturn his conviction.
The “Report” reports that the decision was announced at the proceedings held at the Binagadi District Court. According to the decision, his appeal was granted and his conviction was quashed.
It should be noted that Ali Insanov was arrested on October 20, 2005, on the eve of the Milli Majlis elections, on charges of seizing power by force and preparing to organize mass unrest, and subsequently he was also charged with official and economic crimes. The court sentenced Ali Insanov to 11 years in prison.
Ali Insanov, who was about to be released, was charged with drug trafficking, preparation and possession of prohibited items by a person detained in a penitentiary or detention center. In 2016, the prison sentence was increased by 7 years and 5 days due to new charges.
President Ilham Aliyev Ali Insanov was released thanks to the amnesty order signed in March 2019.
