Alicante will ask the prosecutor’s office to close the networks of YouTuber Nil Ojeda due to the drowning challenge

Alicante City Council will report the content creator to the Public Prosecutor’s Office Nil Ojeda and will request the closure of its social networks after inviting its followers to simulate drownings on the city’s beaches. It will also take action against the companies that sponsored this viral challenge which represented “a serious risk to the safety of people” last Sunday, July 7.

This was confirmed on Tuesday by the spokesman for the local government, Manuel Villar, who indicated that these acts will be transferred to the Public Ministry, with the approval of the municipality’s legal services, which are finalizing their writings. In parallel, a sanction file will be activated for the different administrative infractions committed.

The test consisted of throwing oneself to the ground in front of a rescuer –MilfShake brand employee in disguise– and a fake drowning. In exchange, products of this brand belonging to Ojeda himself, who has 4.4 million followers on YouTube, two on Instagram and one more on Twitch, were offered.

However, no one warned the real lifeguards of the beaches of San Juan and Postiguet of what was really happening and some young people took up the challenge in the water, one day with a yellow flag due to the weather conditions. the sandbox staff proceeded to rescue him.

This conduct could constitute, in the opinion of the municipal council, a offense of simulation of danger. The Catalan influencer and streamer shared these instructions: “Find the rescue professional, stand in front of him and start acting. On the ground, drowned out of the water. If you deserve it, the prize will be given to you.

The event, initially scheduled for the following week, was held without authorization, which would also violate the Valencian Entertainment Law and the Alicante Civic Coexistence Ordinance. Likewise, it could conflict with the provisions of the new state law that regulates content shared by influencers.
