Excited, loving and grateful for Almería’s tribute to a brilliant and talented actress. This has been demonstrated Verónica Sánchez discovering her star on the city’s Walk of Fame and at the presentation of the “Almería, Land of Cinema” award at the 23rd Almería International Film Festival (Fical).
Verónica Sánchez has been part of the collective memory of Spaniards since she fell in love with the whole country with her role in this phenomenon called “Los Serrano” and since then she has grown professionally, being a regular face in television productions and cinematographic. One of his most recent successes, ‘Sky Rojo’ chose the city of San José in Níjar as a natural setting and, during the press conference, he delved into the professional and personal experience of filming in this territory.
“Almería is an incomparable place. All the greats have passed through here and when I filmed “Sky Rojo” in the natural park, the truth is that the setting was spectacular. It’s a city and a province that is struggling and hosting filming. We left with sadness and with the desire that there would be more scenes on this earth“he explained.
Verónica Sánchez says: “I like to see that Almería’s relationship with cinema is constantly renewed, with new filmings and also with the impetus that Fical gives it”. Thus, the actress assures that “I would like to come backthe filming of “Sky Rojo” in Almería was cut short for me. And I’m crossing my fingers that there is a project whose locations focus on Almería.
Fical once again declared his unconditional love for short films during a gala dedicated to “Almería en Corto”, where the talent and good stories of the 23rd edition were recognized. A ceremony that took place at the Cervantes Theater and during which the “Almería, Tierra de Cine” award was presented to actress Verónica Sánchez. In addition, “Entrevías” won the Special Prize Fictional series. The gala ended with the screening of “La Estrella Azul”, followed by a concert by the group formed from Javier Macipe’s first film.
“Lying Amanda”, by Eva Libertad and Nuria Muñoz, received the La Caixa Foundation prize for best national short film; “The Assistant”, by Pierre Llanos, RTVE Prize for best Ibero-American short film; And “Rachid”, by Rachida El GaraniBest international short film. Fical ends this Saturday with the closing gala where the “Almería, land of cinema” award will be given to Karra Elejalde, the Television Series Honorary Prize will be awarded to “Physics or Chemistry” and to the winners of the competitive sections.
