alternative routes by car, subway and EMT

Countdown before the start of the underground work on the A-5, which will begin before the 15th. With the aim of minimizing the effects that this work will have on traffic in the neighborhood and on the daily life of residents, announced the Madrid City Hall. , in coordination with the Community of Madrid, has designed a mobility plan that will be adapted to each of the phases of the works and that will involve the metro and the EMT, in addition to providing information on alternative means of transport by road. Likewise, a strengthening of Cercanías C5 Line.

As the work progresses, explains the council, one or more lanes of the A-5 will be occupied as needed. This circumstance will lead to a reduction in road capacity, but “at times when mobility is most affected, two lanes in each direction will be maintained”, indicated the Department of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility in a press release.

EMT will improve in 7.3% in the supply of EMT lines directly affected by the work to maintain transport capacity: line 36 Atocha-Campamento, line 39 Plaza de España-San Ignacio and line 65 Benavente-Gran Capitán, as well as alternative lines to the A-5 axis: line 17 Plaza Mayor-Parque Europa, line 34 Cibeles-Las Águilas and line 138 Cristo Rey-San Ignacio.

As for the metro, it will increase the service offering up to 9% on lines 5 and 10 and they will also improve the frequency of the ML3 tram line from Boadilla del Monte.

On the other hand, to facilitate the transit of intercity buses, two transfer points will be created, so that some lines will arrive at Príncipe Pío as before, and others will remain at Aviación Española and/or Cuatro Vientos, points connected to the metro and Cercanías.

Access to neighborhoods

By road, the mobility plan offers several alternative routes to reach the M-30. Entry into Madrid, they detail, can be done via the A-5R and its connection with the M-40, which allows you to reach the M-30 north via the M-503 and the M-30 south via the A-42. The exit from Madrid, they add, can be done via the A-42 or Vía Lusitana and from there via the M-40 or even the General Ricardos exit to reach Avenida de los Poblados. For vehicles coming from the north of the M-30, the alternative route passes through the connection with the A-6, the M-40 and the A-5 until the Cuatro Vientos exit.

Regarding connections at the neighborhood level, Sepúlveda Street and Concejal Francisco José Jiménez Martín Street will access Paseo de Extremadura and the M-30 through the Caramuel Street. Necessary adjustments will be made to all traffic lights located at the intersections of the affected roads. Likewise, they pointed out in the area of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, the intersections of the highway from Carabanchel to Aravaca (M-502) and Avenida de los Poblados de A-5 to the intersection with Valmojado Street will be adapted to the increase in flow expected during the work.

in real time

In addition, they will reinforce signage at the main access points to the A-5 such as the M-40, the A-5/M-40 node, the connection of the R-5 with the M-45, on the M-501 before the connection with the M-40, on the M-503 before the connections with the M-502 and the M-508 and inside the central almond, among others.

Finally, and before each new phase of the work, capacity monitoring will be carried out which will provide a real image of the flow of traffic in the works. This analysis will allow us to adopt the best solutions at any time and make the necessary adjustments and optimizations of detours.
