Amil Yunanov: “I will live up to expectations in Albania”

Amil Yunanov, a former Azerbaijan national team player, gave an interview to the “Report” program. The 31-year-old forward spoke about his transfer to the Albanian representative “Bilis”. He announced the goals of his new team and himself. The former “Kepaz” forward did not hide that he felt offended by the representative of Ganja.

Oku.Az presents this interview:

– How did your transfer to the Albanian representative “Bilis” take place?

– My transfer was done in one day. I was negotiating with another team in Azerbaijan. In the evening I received a call informing me that there was an option to play in the Albanian championship. I also asked a few people, I was interested and I accepted, thinking that it would be good. My interests coincided with the club. I also did research on the Internet, I didn’t see anything negative. They bought a ticket and I came to Albania immediately.

– Rauf Aliyev, one of the Azerbaijani footballers, also played in the Albanian championship. Did you ask him?

– No, frankly, I didn’t ask him about it. There were other people, I spoke to them and they told me everything was fine. I also find it interesting to live the life of a legionnaire.

– You said you were negotiating with the Azerbaijani club. Were you not satisfied with that offer?

– I could play for several clubs in Azerbaijan. I don’t want to talk about it for too long. But I can mention “Kepaz” who did not keep their promise. I waited for them, but I did not get the answer I wanted. I am not a footballer who can stay without a club.

– What promises did they make you in “Kepaz”?

– I don’t want to go back too much to old conversations. However, due to your question, I can say that when they came to “Kepaz” last winter, they offered them a specific contract. They said that if the team keeps its place in the Premier League, you will continue to travel with us according to the conditions we discussed. I did my part, I helped, but we did not continue. I was offended that they did not keep their words. I did not expect it to happen because I did not even know them. Because of these conversations I was without a club for almost 3 months. Fortunately today everything is better and I play for “Bilis”.

– What goals have you set for Bilis, where you have recently moved?

– The goal is to play in the higher ranks, to advance as far as possible. If everything goes well, they will also want to qualify for the UEFA Conference League. I watched their last match, they lost. Hopefully, I will do my best to help the team win.

– Azerbaijani footballers living abroad as legionnaires often fail to meet expectations. Doesn’t this scare you?

– I will do my best to help my team win. Because the club’s main interests are in my favour. As a striker, my job is to score goals and I will work hard for that.

– It will be your first test as a Legionnaire. Don’t you think you’ll have trouble fitting in?

– Please note that I was without a club for 3-4 months. I may need some time to adapt. I did not come to the camp at the time of the assembly. In Albania, the championship has already started and the matches of the V round are being played. I want to adapt in a short time. Hopefully, I will live up to the expectations of both myself and those who love me in Albania.

– Do you think you will be invited back to the Azerbaijan national team, thus fulfilling your hopes?

– Of course I do. This is one of my main goals. I never lost hope. While I was without a club, I never stopped playing for a moment. Because I believed that I would receive a good offer. It is not too late for anything. It is a pride to protect the honour of the Azerbaijan national team.
