A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the southern Kuril Islands on Saturday, Elena Semenova, director of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, told RIA Novosti.
“On August 31 at 10:14 (2:14 Moscow time) an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was recorded. The epicenter was located 104 kilometers east of the uninhabited Kuril island of Simushir. The focus was located at a depth of 23 kilometers.” — said the agency’s interlocutor.
According to her, no data have been received on the perceptibility in populated areas of the Kuril Islands.
