An international congress in Granada claims the “permanent validity” of Rafael Alberti

Claiming the “permanent validity” of Rafael Alberti in particular and generation 27 in general. This is one of the priority objectives of the congress which opened this Monday, November 11 at Grenade on the figure of the poet from Cadiz and which brings together until next Wednesday more than forty writers and specialists from Spain but also from countries such as Italy and the United States.

The initial hook is the centenary of the publication of “Marinero en tierra”, but Remedies Sánchezdirector of the congress, professor at the University of Granada and author of the words in quotation marks in the previous paragraph, understands that it is also a magnificent opportunity to claim Generation 27, of which Rafael Alberti and another universal poet born in Granada made it part, Federico Garcia Lorca. The choice of location is therefore not due to chance.

“Alberti said: ‘I believe in what I do because it is right,’ and we are organizing this congress because Alberti and Lorca, together with Luis Cernudawere probably the peaks of the 27 generation and of the trio that represented the writers who, from Spain, made a revolution of letters and marked one of the peaks of Spanish literature.

He also understands that the quotation can and must serve to recover the “symbol of the word concord”, which is “associated with literary creation” and that now, in “tense times”, it must be justified because, in other time, the intellectuals “have done to build a country where we all have our place, which is why this congress aspires to contribute to a society of free citizens who build a future where everyone expresses themselves freely“.

The exhibition is organized by the University of Granada and supported by the Department of Culture of the Government of Andalusia and began with an inaugural presentation by Alberti’s widow, Maria Asunción Mateo‘Of the living and distant’. Previously, he announced that the centenary of Generation 27 was already in preparation. “At the Alberti Foundation we work on activities with an international scope so that this silver age of Spanish poetry regains the meaning it once had.”

In addition, he stressed, so that not only Lorca or Alberti are justified again, but also “authors who, due to circumstances, were not so popular and recognized and who formed, all of them, a generation of friends. It’s not a label, I heard Rafael talk about these writers, they were his friends and he admired them. It was a group exemplary on a human and poetic level“.

Patricia del PozoMinister of Culture, stressed that the congress is “an important event” for Andalusia and stressed that it should take place in a faculty “because young people must approach the figure of Alberti and feel proud of a teacher who continues to enlighten us. . ” “.

Del Pozo believes that the choice of Granada as a location is “opportune”, not only because Alberti “has a lot to tell here”, but also because, in a certain way, it can interact with the land of García Lorca, “another point of reference for Andalusian Talent.” Therefore, he concluded, “the place and time are appropriate for an act that will reflect the high level poetry“.
