Iranian social activist, journalist and former political prisoner Kianush Sanjari committed suicide in protest against the Iranian government’s repression of activists.
The “Telegram” channel “Azad Iran” reported about this.
It was reported that he posted “X” on his account a few hours before committing suicide
“If political prisoners Fatima Sepehri, Nasrin Shakerami, Tumaj Salehi and Arsham Rezai are not released on Wednesday afternoon, I will end my life in protest against the dictatorship of Ali Khamenei and his allies,” he said in his message.
It was noted that Sanjari was first arrested in 2000, when he was 17, for participating in a protest. He was subsequently arrested nine times on charges of “propaganda against the state structure”, “undermining national security”, “membership in the student movement” and other charges.
Due to pressure, he left the country in the summer of 2008 and lived in the United States for 8 years. Sanjari returned to Iran in October 2016.
