An optimized transportation plan will be implemented in Baku during COP29

Considering that thousands of visitors from different countries will visit the COP29 conference to be held in Baku from 11 to 22 November this year, the COP29 Operating Company of Azerbaijan, the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan and the State Traffic Police Department of Baku City continue relevant works on the implementation of the optimized transport plan.

From the COP29 Azerbaijan operating company Oku.AzIt was reported that construction of special COP29 lanes has begun on several central streets of Baku as part of measures planned to effectively manage the large flow of visitors, as well as to ensure the smooth movement of guests and city residents in the capital during the conference dates.

These lanes, marked with the COP29 logo, are reserved for event traffic to ensure fast and uninterrupted traffic.

During the conference, these lanes will be used only by public vehicles and vehicles with special permits related to the event. All vehicles may use the lanes where appropriate traffic signs are not installed until the conference.

In addition, during the conference it is planned to organize a total of 14 transport hubs at different main points of the city. The network of transport hubs, planned taking into account the location of the Baku stadium, the venue of the event, the map of the city’s metro stations, densely located areas of hotels and residential complexes and other factors, will include various routes and transport schemes. Traffic participants will be continuously informed about the plans. Thus, the strategic location of these junctions will provide both guests and residents of the city with convenient and unhindered access to various types of transport and will minimize the time spent on reaching their destination. For the efficient organization of the event on the designated transport routes, the movement of hundreds of taxis and about 400 buses, including public express buses, special “conference buses” and “airport buses”, as well as a regular passenger shuttle service will be implemented. One of the main factors in the implementation of the transportation scheme is the provision of accessible and convenient alternatives to minimize the use of private cars by citizens on the dates of the event.
