Cable and power networks deployed underground constitute a fundamental element for the development of public and private investment projects as well as for the citizens’ access to all digital services, such as telephone or digital television. It is for this reason that the Andalusian Government has proposed a first strategy for coordination and improvement of all these infrastructures, through the approval of the Government Council and which is part of the Digital Andalusia Plan.
The first major challenge that this plan aims to address is the enormous digital divide that exists in the Andalusian territory with a huge distance between the services received by large cities and connectivity in small municipalities. It is not only a tool to improve the quality of life, but also a fundamental working instrument and one of the measures that can help stop depopulation of certain rural centers.
The new plan establishes a battery of measures to promote the arrival of the 5G network in all these rural communities, firstly, as well as the latest advances in high-definition digital television. For that, Initiatives are proposed such that all works carried out on the roads provide for the reservation of trenches for connections.and above all the shared use of public domain infrastructures between the different providers.
“This is about promoting the shared use of infrastructure such as the tubes through which the operators’ cabling passes and getting the most out of the execution of civil works so that they have space reserved for communication networks”, declared the Minister of the Presidency of the Interior. , Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, who stressed that the ultimate objective of this plan is to improve citizens’ access to services: “If we want to enjoy high-resolution television and have fast, high-capacity telecommunications networks, we need to modernize our digital infrastructure.an industry in which change is moving at a frenetic pace,” says Sanz.
Facilitate investments
The second challenge for infrastructure networks is to resolve the huge mismatch that exists underground between the different networks and service infrastructures installed independently by the provider companies. The existing complex underground network delays or even stops projects given that there is a lack of information and what is available is updated.
The Junta de Andalucía proposes to resolve this situation with the development of a map of all telecommunications infrastructures, through a digital platform to which all municipalities also have access in order to be able to share information and use it as a tool of basis for planning and permit management. and authorizations. Companies will be able to access this document with an information point and an electronic seat will be activated in terms of digital infrastructures which will function as a one-stop shop available to public and private agents wishing to develop a project.
The first plan to promote digital infrastructure is part of the Andalusia Digital Strategy promoted by the Ministry of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification. “It’s about place the Andalusian Administration as an actor in the tasks of promoting and organizing the deployment of digital infrastructures and define actions to promote the development of a digital infrastructure ecosystem with main communication links and high-capacity data centers”, concludes the head of the area, Antonio Sanz.
