The Minister of Territorial Policy, Angel Victor Torresaccused PP to act “irresponsibly” immigration issue and denied that the Spanish government rejects the aid offered by the European Commission.
In statements to the media, Torres stressed that the PP was “very irresponsible” when last July it voted against the process in Congress of the reform of the immigration law and now it has considered breaking off negotiations with the government to agree on the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors.
The former Canarian president believes that the PP is alleging “excuses that are not credible” and believes that “if they have a condition or a request, what they must do is raise it at the negotiating table and don’t break it in the media. »
Concerning the Spanish government’s alleged rejection of the aid provided to it by Brussels, he declared that “it is false” because the executive “has been working for many years with the Commission and the European Union on the migratory phenomenon “.
And he added that, “of course”, he will ask for it, “but in accordance with the regulations, the protocols, the regulations that have to do with the migratory phenomenon”.
“But we must remind the PP,” Torres continued, “that at the moment this solidarity with the rest of Europe is voluntary, and if we want to move to compulsory solidarity, this is what we are asking in Spain with the reform of For the “law on immigration, we must wait, listen carefully, until the summer of 2026”.
It happens that “the boys and girls – migrants – who are in the Canary Islands cannot wait. The situation is urgent and immediate action must be taken,” he proclaimed.
“The worst thing that can happen to children in the Canary Islands, in Ceuta and Melilla, who are poorly taken care of, overcrowded, because there are too many of them, is that everything drags on, that negotiations are not closed, that we cannot reach an agreement,” added the Minister of Territorial Policy.
Torres urged the PP to “say yes or no – to reform the immigration law – definitely, but let them say it” and to stop “giving more delays, finding more excuses, more obstacles and not solving the problem”, which is what the government is working on and will continue to work on “so that this can move forward”.
