Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil is surprised by Guadalajara (28-31)

The Guadalajara Handball team of Juan Carlos Requena stormed the Miguel Salas Pavilion in a surprising way in a match where Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil was not comfortable and was always behind on the scoreboard. The visiting team entered the match better with quick offensive transitions, taking advantage of the speed of their captain, the Argentinian Lombardi. With those many at the beginning, Requena’s team would lead 1-3. Little by little, the Pontanians warm up, adjusting their defense, even if Bustos’ team did not finish in attack.

Nevertheless, Ángel Ximénez will take advantage of two consecutive exclusions of visitors to reverse the situation with a goal from Janosi which places gives us the advantage for the first time in the match (6-5). The joy was short-lived for the home team as a partial 1-4 from Guadalajara forced Bustos to call a timeout with the 7-9 coming after a good penetrating goal from Jódar. The difference would widen to the maximum with 7-10 although those of Puente Genil would manage to reduce the disadvantage to one before Vicente Poveda with a whip from 9 meters left the score at halftime at 10-12 and bad feelings in the local parish.

The second period started with a lot of rhythm and great shooting success from both teams. In this way we would witness a 3-3 start in the first five minutes after the break (13-15) in a phase of the match where Poveda, former player of Angel Ximénez, stood out for the visitors and Antonio Cabello de Ponta, for the locals. The exchange of goals would continue in the following minutes until 16-19 (40′), although Dorado’s goal from 6 meters later brought the score to 16-20, putting Guadalajara with its maximum in favor and Bustos stopped the game with another timeout.

Despite the interruption, the outlook remained gloomy as Guadalajara would manage to maintain the advantage on the scoreboard of three to four goals until the halfway through the second act with a great Vicente Poveda, although several seven meters scored by Bernabéu would bring Bustos’ team to one (21-22), with a lot of match to play (47′). A whip from Mosquera would drive Miguel Salas crazy, who now saw the return very closely.

The score of 22-22 forced the visiting coach to call a timeout. After the break, things couldn’t have gone worse for the Pontanos. Goal from Poveda and another from Serradilla on the counterattack in a game where goalkeeper De Hita would also be injured. Then, Serradilla scored the same goal and Danish goalkeeper Lantz gave the Bernabéu a prodigious hand on a counter-attack. With 22-25 we would enter the last seven minutes of the match and the match was difficult for the Pontaniens, who also hit the visiting goal several times.

With five remaining, a goal from Dorado put the rivals ahead at 25-28, a difference that would hold after goals from Bernabéu and Moreno. There were only three minutes left to play. This rush caused a new error in Ximénez’s attack, penalized by a counter-attack and a goal from Lombardi which made the match almost impossible for Bustos’ team (26-30) two minutes from the end. The miracle did not happen and the match ended with a victory for the visitors by three, 28-31. Very painful defeat for the Ponta team against a direct rival who leaves the Pontanos with three points before going to the difficult Granollers track next Friday.
