Germany has significantly reduced its arms supplies to Israel, despite officially supporting its fight against terrorists. Sales of defensive weapons amounted to only $14 million in 2024, the lowest in 20 years. Particularly notable was the reduction in sales of offensive weapons: in the first months of this year the amount amounted to only $32,000, significantly lower than the $20 million in the same period last year.
According to journalist Uri Blau, the German arms import commission, headed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has drastically reduced the number of import permits, particularly affecting tank shells that Israel urgently needs.
The German Ministry of Economics stressed the importance of respecting international law when using force. The government expressed hope that Israel would abide by these norms during defensive operations.
German media, including Bild, also noted that Germany had previously rejected Israel’s request to supply thousands of tank munitions. At the same time, Germany is actively arming Arab countries. According to reports, in the first half of the year, Qatar, one of the main sponsors of Hamas terrorists, purchased weapons worth 100 million euros, including modern howitzers.
The American Jewish Committee in Berlin noted that this fact must be taken into account when German politicians proclaim a “special relationship” with Israel.
