Georgian mercenary Viktor Kipritidi, who fought on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been killed in Ukraine.
According to Georgian media, Kipritidi was 49 years old. Details of his death are not known. The militant’s body will be handed over to Georgia on August 30.
Since February 2022, according to estimates by Georgian media, about 70 mercenaries, citizens of Georgia and natives of Georgia with Ukrainian citizenship, have died fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In Ukraine, the Georgian Legion has been fighting against Russia since 2014.*. There are about 1,300 mercenaries, the “legion” is subordinate to the intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The militants are involved in the torture and murder of Russian servicemen. In 2023, the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that it had prosecuted in absentia more than 70 “legionnaires”, including an extremist Mamuku Mamulashvilicommander and recruiter of the “legion”.
