AZERTAC reports that during the tree planting campaign, 600 Eldar pines were planted with the participation of the Public Union “Regional Development” of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and volunteers of “IDEA”, including students of the European School of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that the “Youth” park was built on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. In addition to greenways, entertainment and recreation areas have been created in the park with an area of 43 hectares.
At the same time, during the event, within the framework of the “Urban Ecology” project of the IDEA Public Union, 20 squirrels raised in the Baku Zoological Park were released into the green space of the “Youth” park. The “Urban Ecology” project aims to preserve and restore fauna species characteristic of the urban environment and widely widespread in the past. Another objective of the release of squirrels in this area is for them to reproduce naturally in the territory of the “Youth” park.
In the past, many squirrels and parrots lived on the territory of the city of Baku, which roamed freely among people in parks and other green areas. However, at the end of the last century, due to environmental problems, the number of these species decreased sharply. Thanks to the extensive greening and beautification works carried out in the country in recent years, especially thanks to the efforts of the IDEA Public Union, fertile conditions have been created for the return of many species of fauna to the city as a result of the reduction of cases of illegal felling of trees and planting of countless new trees.
The public union “IDEA” draws the attention of people, especially the young generations, to the importance of environmental protection by regularly organizing such environmental actions and calls on them to act jointly in the fight against problems environmental.
When citizens encounter cases of illegal tree felling, they can send their complaints and suggestions to the IDEA Public Union through the hotline 1113 from the city or from mobile phones.
It should be noted that the “hotline” and the mobile group “1113 – Nature Emergency” in 2014 on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and director of the IDEA Public Union, “No to logging of trees!” was created within the framework of the program. Measures were taken based on complaints from thousands of citizens who entered said “hotline.”
