“We should pay attention to water on Earth, not on Mars and the Moon.”
Oku.Az reports, this was stated by the Special Ambassador of the European Union for Climate and Environmental Diplomacy, Anthony Agota, during his speech at the inaugural high-level event “Promoting the lifeline of water for the climate, nature and people” held in the framework of COP29.
The ambassador said that the European Union’s goals until 2050 and the Baku Declaration recognize that water is at the center of climate change and emphasizes that most climate impacts occur through the interruption of the water cycle:
“It also addresses the vast majority of water-related natural disasters and emergencies. The Declaration highlights the important role of conservation, restoration and sustainable management of water-related watersheds and ecosystems and the benefits of mitigation and adaptation to climate”.
