On the social media platform “X” it became known that the majority of profiles carrying out an active large-scale campaign against the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in the Republic of Azerbaijan, use fake accounts in a coordinated and massive manner.
Oku.Az reports that this is stated in the joint statement of the commission against foreign interference and hybrid threats of the Milli Majlis and the Media Development Agency (MEDIA).
It has been observed that fake profiles manipulate content through bot systems by simultaneously publishing automatic responses with the same content under the hashtag #COP29, thus attempting to confuse public opinion.
According to the information, the main objective of these activities, organized on the basis of false information, is to create the illusion of mass discontent with the holding of COP29 in Azerbaijan.
“It should be noted that an effective communication strategy is being implemented regarding COP29, which will be held in Baku in November this year, and the public is being quickly informed.
We urge our citizens and the international community not to be influenced by this type of misleading information and to refer only to information obtained from official sources.
The Commission against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Media Development Agency ask the social media platform “X” to investigate this information campaign based on false information.
