Aragon rebels against housing law and will not intervene on rent prices in areas in difficulty

Aragon, along with the rest of the PP communities, maintains its discomfort with the housing law promoted by the Spanish government and the threats of the minister, Isabel Rodríguez, to withdraw funds if it is not implemented. These regions signed a document before the Sectoral Conference in which they clearly express their “categorical rejection” of attempts to “impose their failed and ineffective policies”..

At the center of the communities are the articles that bring together the declaration of stressed areas for the municipalities most affected by the lack of housing and intervention on rent prices. A section that the Aragonese councilor of the branch, Octavio López, has already announced that he will not apply and that he would advise all localities not to apply, because he considers that it is not the solution appropriate.

In fact, as we have explained, only one Aragonese town hall requested to benefit from this declaration of stressed area, but it withdrew it after learning of the regional government’s programs to build rental housing for workers. “It is necessary to provide land, support supply and demand and put in place all the necessary instruments for the construction of social housing.“, said López, who came to Madrid to participate in the Housing Sector Conference.

It is not for nothing that he believes that the application of stress zones to solve the problem of rental prices amounts to “giving painkillers” to an “innate and very serious problem”. “It is a very serious cancer from which young people cannot escape.. We are committed to public housing through collaboration and public-private management in municipalities where people go to work and do not have a residence,” he stressed.

In this sense, the Aragonese councilor recognizes that other articles are more useful, such as article 15, which facilitates the transformation of land initially dedicated to public facilities, and which has not been used, into building land. “All necessary instruments must be applied, without ideological criteria, but rather in terms of operability and efficiency to provide a sufficient number of social housing,” he added.

With this, López argues that Minister Rodríguez’s statements and threats were “unfortunate”, but she has no doubt that she “has a great spirit” and that she will be able to redirect the controversy through dialogue and agreements.. “We will reach reasonable agreements in the general interest of citizens, who need housing and actions, not words,” he said.
