Are the Ukrainian Armed Forces Continuing Their Offensive in the Kursk Region? – ISW Assessment

The Ukrainian military is continuing an active offensive in the Kursk region, according to the latest ISW assessments.

Advances are taking place east of the Merry, as well as on the northern side of the opening, where Ukrainian forces increased pressure on 19 September. Advances are observed in the areas southeast of Sheptukhovka and Nayadnova.

American analysts also point to attacks by Ukrainian troops near the settlements of Lyubimovka, Obukhovka, Kremennoe and Borki. Satellite images from September 19 confirm ongoing fires at the Russian Defense Ministry’s Arsenal 107 in the Tver region, which were the result of a drone attack on September 18.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian forces expanded their bridgehead, moving east of Krasnoyoktyabrsky, which is confirmed by geolocation images from September 17.

It should be noted that the operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region of Russia, which have been going on for more than six weeks, are beginning to yield tangible results.

Doug Livermore, an expert on military operations, said the measures help push Russian forces away from Donbass and weaken their offensive in eastern Ukraine.

In an article for CEPA, Livermore notes that the attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces cause significant damage not only to Russia’s military infrastructure, but also have a powerful psychological impact. Russia’s inability to defend its territories is causing growing discontent among the population, especially in the context of the mass exodus of 150,000 residents from the region.

Livermore also predicts that Ukraine could step up its information campaign, focusing on the failures of Russian military and humanitarian initiatives in the occupied areas. This could lead to internal conflicts in Russia and undermine support for the war.

In addition, Ukrainian control of the Kursk region could encourage desertion among Russian soldiers, as Ukraine could offer them humane treatment.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the Russian military failed to recapture the Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russia’s attempts to regain control of territories occupied by Ukrainian troops were thwarted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
