Argentina’s debt falls to $286.881 million in second quarter

At the end of the first half of 2024, Argentina recorded a gross external debt of 286.881 million dollars (approximately 256.813 million euros), which implies that the “stock” of debt decreased by 1% compared to the first quarter, according to official sources.

As stated in a report from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec)this drop is due to the drop of 1.6% in the national government debt, to 154.536 million, and 1% in the debt of the non-financial corporations and households sector, to 101.154 million.

In addition, contributed 13.7% reduction in debt of deposit companiesat $2.260 million, and 7.5% of the debt of other financial companies, at $1.614 million.

On the other hand, the Central Bank debt increased by 4.8% to 27,317 million of dollars.

In annual terms, the “stock” of Total gross external debt in nominal value increased by $10.68 billion compared to the $276.201 million recorded in the same period of 2023.

According to official data, the “stock” of Argentina’s total gross external debt, but measured at market value, decreased by 0.2% quarterly, to 248,378 million dollars at the end of the first quarter of this year.

In annual terms, debt at market value increased by $19.141 millionout of the $229.237 million calculated at the end of the second quarter of 2023.

The public debt was composed from the second quarter of 2024 by $74.277 million from international organizations4.571 million dollars from other creditors and 62.431 million dollars of debt securities with nominal value, but whose market value is 29.090 million, which shows the low market valuation of Argentine sovereign bonds.

Meanwhile, the debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)organization with which Argentina signed a refinancing agreement in March 2022, amounts to $41.546 millionwith a decrease of 1,417 million compared to the first quarter.
