Argentine justice put the president of Venezuela on the international wanted list through Interpol

The Buenos Aires court has decided to include Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on the international list of people wanted for human rights violations.

Oku.AzThe newspaper “La Nación” reported on this.

The members of the court decided to grant the request of the Argentine prosecutors, who received a complaint from the non-governmental organization “Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy” accusing the Venezuelan leader of crimes against humanity.

An Argentine court has ruled that such charges fall under universal jurisdiction, giving it the power to extradite Maduro.

“In order to extradite Nicolás Maduro Moros and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello to Argentina, an arrest warrant must be issued immediately through Interpol,” the judge said in an excerpt from the decision.

In July, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry announced that the country’s government had decided to once again support the complaint against the Maduro administration before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

It is worth recalling that in September 2018, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Chile sent a request to the International Criminal Court to initiate an investigation into possible crimes against humanity in Venezuela. The complaint was filed in 2017 after several months of protests in the country. During this period, more than 120 people died, thousands of protesters were injured and more than 5 thousand people were arrested.
