Argentine prosecutors charged three people on Thursday in the case investigating the death of British singer Liam Payne, who died on October 16 after falling from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel.
“As part of the investigation into the death of British musician Liam James Payne, which occurred on October 16 when he fell from the balcony of a hotel in the Buenos Aires district of Palermo, illicit behavior was discovered for which three people were charged. with the crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics”, reported today the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14.
One of the accused is a person who accompanied Payne during his stay in Buenos Aires, another is an employee of the hotel where his death took place and the third was described as “a supplier of narcotics”.
The prosecution indicated that the indictment of these three people, whose arrest has already been ordered, came after an in-depth investigation which included dozens of testimonies, the analysis of more than 800 hours of filming from the cameras of the hotel and on the public highway, and the contents of Payne’s cell phone and several witnesses, as well as thanatological and laboratory studies.
The first of the accused was described in the press release as “who accompanied the artist daily” during his stay in Buenos Aires and was charged with the crimes of abandonment of person followed by death and supply and facilitation of narcotics.
The second is an employee of the Casa Sur hotel, where Payne was staying, accused of supplying cocaine to the musician during his stay; while the third allegedly supplied drugs to the musician on two occasions.
On the other hand, the prosecution reported that the results of toxicology studies revealed that “in the moments before his death and during his last 72 hours at least, Payne had only traces of polyconsumption of alcohol, of cocaine and a prescribed medication.” antidepressant. »
Reports presented to the prosecution concluded that “all of Payne’s injuries were consistent with those caused by a fall from height and that any form of self-harm and/or also physical intervention by third parties were excluded.”
In addition, they confirmed the first tests which indicated that the musician had not adopted a reflex posture to protect himself during the fall, which is why they consider that “he could have fallen into a state of semi-unconsciousness or total” and exclude the possibility of a “conscious or voluntary act” since “in the state he was going through, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it”.
“Beyond the strength of the evidence obtained so far (visual, registers, medical, scientific, documentary, telephone, testimonies, etc.), the investigation must continue, since, among other steps, the unlocking of the netbook victim’s personal – which is damaged – and other devices seized during the investigation,” the statement added.
The body of the former member of the musical group One Direction was transferred yesterday from Ezeiza International Airport (Buenos Aires province) to London on a British Airways flight, shortly after being embalmed at the British cemetery in Buenos Aires in order to preserve their remains.
