Arizona Supreme Court allows people with unverified citizenship to vote – FOX

The Arizona Supreme Court has ruled that 98,000 people whose citizenship has not been verified can vote in key elections, including the presidential one. FOX News reports this.

It should be noted that an earlier database error called into question the citizenship status of 100,000 registered voters in Arizona.

“As far as we know, this wasn’t discovered because someone voted illegally or because someone tried to vote illegally. And it was the basic maintenance of the voter rolls that showed us there was a problem.” – said the Secretary of State – representative of the Democratic Party Adrian Fontes at a news conference on Tuesday.

Fontes said he would send ballots to “those affected” anyway.

Maricopa County Republican Registrar Esteban RicherIn turn, he said voters who have not confirmed their citizenship cannot participate in key elections. Richer filed a special motion on Tuesday asking the state Supreme Court to resolve the matter.

Arizona state law clearly requires voters to prove their citizenship in order to participate in local and federal elections, the television station reports.

Arizona Republicans and a conservative watchdog group are pushing for stricter election measures requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in local and federal elections. Arizona is a swing state that turned blue in the 2020 presidential election. Arizona has 11 Electoral College votes, Yahoo reports.
