Armenia aligns with Azerbaijan, offers to sign agreed points of peace treaty

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he had proposed to Azerbaijan to sign the points that They already remembered the peace treaty between the two countries and continue negotiations on those for which there is no agreement.

“We offered (Azerbaijan) to take all the articles and editorials agree on the text of the peace agreement and sign them as a peace agreement (…), after that we can keep arguing “other issues,” Pashinyan said at a news conference in Yerevan broadcast live on television.

According to Azerbaijan, the text of the peace treaty was agree between 80 and 90 percent. The Prime Minister said that Armenians highly appreciate the assistance of their international partners in the process of peaceful settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but noted that negotiations with Baku have been taking place for some time in a context bilateral format which – he stressed – “has demonstrated a certain effectiveness”.

“As long as it’s effective, I consider it a correct format”, he stressed. Pashinyan added that he had expressed this “directly and frankly” to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his recent telephone conversation, during which the Kremlin leader again said offer Moscow’s help for the conclusion of an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the same time, he did not rule out the continuation of negotiations with Baku in a tripartite format, but only on specific issues and if deemed appropriate.

The conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh has been facing the two Caucasus countries for over 30 years. During this period, over 400,000 people have lost their lives and over 100,000 ethnic Armenians have had to leave their home because of the war.
