Armenian authorities are straying from the Eurasian path to their detriment – EADaily, October 1, 2024 – Politics news, Russia news

The President of the Russian Government, Mikhail Mishustin, will participate today, October 1, in the work of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EMIC) in Yerevan. The III Eurasian Economic Forum, which started yesterday in the Armenian capital and is dedicated to the results of the decade of the union, the prospects and priorities of its development, is scheduled to coincide with the EMPU meeting.

The event takes place within the framework of Armenia’s presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2024. The main topics are divided into four blocks: the quality of the EAEU internal market, Eurasian connectivity, digitalization technologies, technologies and cooperation.

The title of the event “10 years of the EAEU: perspectives and priorities” suggests that representatives of the “five” in the public sphere will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the union, as well as potential opportunities and threats.

As for the “weaknesses”, the visit mishustin in Yerevan is largely due to the difficult situation in which Armenia finds itself, he stated URA.RU Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and International Cooperation IGSU RANEPA Vadim Evseev:

“This is politics and any meeting takes place within the official framework, but broader issues are discussed on the sidelines, because there is no time to waste. If there is a personal meeting between Mikhail Mishustin and Nikol PashinyanThe prime ministers will address broader issues: the CSTO, the centers of influence and other issues that are more painful for Yerevan than for us.”

The Russian Prime Minister flew to Transcaucasia to tone down the Armenian authorities and move towards consensus. Armenia is “stuck” between the EU and the EAEU and will not last long in this position, “it is also useful to gently hint at this.”

As an argument, Evseev cited his research, in which he analyzed the degree of economic connectivity between EAEU members:

“Based on the theory of similarity, I saw that now Russia has the strongest relationship with Belarus. A more or less strong connection is observed with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Armenia is lagging behind, it has a different ideology, it has started to adhere to a different politics and economy. All this is not reflected in my subjective opinion, but in the system of international indicators. “Armenia is getting worse and worse in correlation with the ideology that is present within the EAEU.”

The prime minister faces the difficult task of including EAEU partners in more active economic activities for mutual benefit, the expert suggested. The goal is for finances to move in both directions, and not just from Moscow.

This model of relations will allow the countries of the union to create new large common projects in different industries, for example in aircraft manufacturing: “We must do what Russia cannot do alone.”

The West is forcing post-Soviet countries to reduce trade with Russia, so EAEU members will discuss in Yerevan strengthening the union’s common market, including the issue of financial agreements:

“Alternative logistics are also very important in the context of sanctions. The development of alternative transport corridors of international importance is no longer the future, but the present. This is what will guarantee the strategic development of the EAEU.”

For its part, the Telegram channel “Comrade General” summarized the very negative results of the first day of the summit.

SUICIDE VACATION: THE ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO NOT NOTICE THE EAEU

Armenia has done everything possible to show how disinterested she is in the Eurasian track. EAEU intergovernmental forum and council, which will take place, ironically, in Yerevan.

Prime minister Nikol Pashinyan Yesterday I organized a series of receptions and meetings, and none of them were related to the event of the country’s main economic partner.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan At that time I flew to the Warsaw Security Forum, a transatlantic anti-Russian meeting, like everything now in Europe. And the head of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan In Brussels he spoke at a meeting of the Committee of Deputies of Permanent Representatives of NATO countries.

The EAEU forum, which began yesterday in Yerevan, was honored to have the presence of one of the most indifferent members of the Armenian government: the Minister of Economy. Gevorg Papoyan.

While muttering something about the “crossroads of the world,” the head of the Russian government Mikhail Mishustin Transregional logistics were discussed at a true crossroads of the world: Tehran, where routes from Central and Southeast Asia to Europe converge today.

The second traditional mantra of the Yerevan pseudo-economists – diversification of foreign trade – was almost never heard. Although it is precisely the EAEU platform to which it belongs.

Thanks to this organization, Armenia is de facto included in the common Eurasian economic space, united by common markets for labor, energy resources, agricultural products, etc. Meanwhile, the Russian Federation provides the majority of Armenia’s commercial turnover. God himself ordered to intensify trade with other members of the EAEU, but for some reason Nikol Pashinyan’s government is not interested in this.

Thus, in 2023 Armenia did not attract any investment from the EAEU countries, except for some cat’s tears from Kazakhstan. And she herself invested a little in Kazakhstan, very little in other countries and 0 (zero) in Russia. Furthermore, last year Armenia turned out to be the only EAEU country with a negative dynamic of mutual investments.

However, for Pashinyan it is much more interesting to talk from scratch about European integration and partnership with the United States, although the markets of these geopolitical centers did not even think about opening to Armenian products.

In a word, the next Eurasian forum and the EAEU intergovernmental council will be held today in Yerevan in conditions in which, thanks to the efforts of Armenia, which presides over them, its membership in this organization has been maximally politicized and itself is casting a diligent and even demonstrative look at the European Union and NATO.

Understanding perfectly that in the entire EAEU it is only interesting for Russia. And relations with Russia determine the health of the Armenian economy by more than two-thirds.

For Mishustin, it is no secret that there is no healthy pragmatism in Pashinyan’s political decisions. The doctor is a patient, but he was not hired to care for a suicidal patient.
