Arnaud Frisch, creator of clubs with a unique atmosphere

Intellectual look, relaxed style, comes with a small cabin suitcase. “I’m going to Ibiza, if I can find a plane ticket.” Arnaud Frisch opened El Silencio on the Balearic island, the beach house from the Parisian club Silencio. That was four years ago and, since then, the whole small fauna of the Ibizan nightlife has been crowding there as soon as summer arrives. The novelty for 2024 is the opening of the Japanese restaurant Urusai, the second restaurant in the place, with a breathtaking view of the paradisiacal cove of Cala Moli, a kind of Tokyo tapas bar, with a menu signed by one of the leading duos of Parisian gastronomy: Olivier Leone and Arthur Cohen.

Silence, this name has become a brand in its own right and is available in several versions around the world. But it all started in Paris, rue Montmartre, in August 2011. The first club, imagined by director David Lynch (the name is taken from his film Mulholland Street), brings together all of Arnaud Frisch’s passions: music, cinema, performance, contemporary art, gastronomy and partying. A strange hybrid, somewhere between a discotheque, a contemporary version of a literary salon and an artistic laboratory, which did not exist in the capital.

Silencio also relies on exclusivity: you have to be a member to have access (from €600 to €1,200 per card depending on the formula). After midnight, however, the barriers fall and everyone can take part in the party as long as they know how to do it with the physiognomist. “We opened Silencio in the place of the former printing press of the newspaper L’Aurore, where Zola’s J’accuse was printed. The idea was to programme DJs, but not only that. We wanted to show films, organise meetings with writers and concerts.”

TO ” Us “ which includes Manu Barrón and Antoine Caton. The former was his partner from 2008 to 2013, and the latter has been with him on a daily basis since the creation of the Club Social in Paris (closed in 2013). From the beginning, we meet Lana Del Rey, Prince, The Weeknd, Cat Power, Virgil Abloh (who did his first DJ set there) and rapper Kendrick Lamar at Silencio. Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and photographer Juergen Teller have also exhibited their works there.

Son of an engineer and a doctor, Arnaud Frisch never dreamed of becoming the king of the night. An event during his studies put him on this path. At the same time as Essec, the Parisian business school, the young man is studying a DEA in law at Nanterre – “At that moment I would have seen myself as a criminal lawyer.” In 1996, the Avignon city council issued a decree banning rave parties.. “Passionate about electronic music since the age of 15, I attended Laurent Garnier’s evenings at the Palace. I decided to reverse this decision with the help of a teacher at the school. » Thanks to the file you create, the ban order is lifted.
