Russian citizen Omarsha Karimov, accused of causing the road accident that killed three people in Salyan last year, has been sentenced.
Qafqazinfo reports that Lankaran Serious Crimes Court found O. Karimov guilty under Article 263.3 of the Criminal Code (for causing a traffic accident resulting in the death of two or more persons).
It was reported that at the time of the incident O. Karimov was transporting 19 tons of cherries from Iran to Russia on the truck “Schmitz”. The truck he was driving collided with the VAZ-2105 car driven by Maharram Farziyev while driving on the section of the Alat-Astara highway passing through Salyan. As a result, M. Farziyev, his wife Khanim Farziyeva and her brother Ilgar Farziyev were killed. They attended a wedding in Lankaran and returned to Baku.
It also became known that Maharram Farziyev, who died in the accident, was a retired colonel of the Ministry of Defense. The reserve officer worked as a chief inspector at the security company “Sabit”. The relatives of the deceased claimed at the hearing that the incident was committed intentionally and that M. Farziyev died after the accident. They explained this by the fact that Mr. Farziyev’s body was found some distance from the accident site. However, these claims were not accepted by the judicial investigation.
According to the court’s verdict of 13 September, Omrasha Karimov, the perpetrator of the accident, was sentenced to 9 years in prison. In addition, she was banned from driving for 4 years.
